What is an ESR Test?

The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) test checks for inflammation in the body. You might need an ESR test if your doctor suspects that you have an infection or an illness related to inflammation. As ESR is not specific test, other tests might be needed to identify the location and cause of the inflammation or infection.
