What is Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system begins to attack the peripheral nervous system. It can present in many different ways making it difficult to diagnose in the early stages. First symptoms include varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs. In many cases this spreads to the upper body and in severe cases leads to almost total paralysis.
