Stress – Symptoms and How to live Stress Free
Read what Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Psychiatrist, Senior Consultant, Moolchand Medcity tells us about stress.
“Even listening to the word stress repeatedly can increase your tension levels,” Dr Nagpal remarks. In his view, it is important to understand that stress is part of every normal human being’s day-to-day life- to inspiring, energize and encourage us. It motivates us to strive harder. This is “Positive Stress”.
According to Dr. Nagpal, we need to understand the word stress correctly. The problem is that many people are unable to channelise their response to circumstance, conditions or are unable to cope with situations, thereby causing “Negative Stress”.
Signs and Symptoms – Stress could cause headaches, ulcers, sleepless-ness/insomnia, irritability, mood swings, anger, violence, substance abuse including tobacco, drugs or alcohol.
According to Dr. Nagpal, a person could be qualified as stressed when there is a collection of many symptoms and when the intensity and duration of these problems have gone beyond tolerable levels.
Are you Stressed? Dr. Nagpal suggests self-introspection to determine if one is not reacting irrationally or having unreasonable mood swings beyond a limit, for eg. feeling sad or depressed for over 2 weeks; feeling lost and helpless; unable to cope-up, feeling dejected or suffering from low self-esteem, lack of motivation.
Children and Stress. Signs and Symptoms – Stressed children display their condition through changed behaviour, reduced social interaction, preference for seclusion or social media, affected studies, sleeping in school, undisciplined hygiene.
